Speed Of Consumption

·233 words·2 mins·

Being used to watching a lot of content has changed the way I prefer to consume knowledge. Back when I had slow internet because I was stuck with a 2G phone while others had 4G, and later when everyone switched to Jio with unlimited data and I couldn’t that limitation was actually better for me.

It forced me to read instead of watching endless videos. That slower pace helped me learn things gradually, gave me greater clarity, and even improved my vocabulary. But now, with a 4G phone and an almost constant unlimited broadband connection, my knowledge consumption has shifted dramatically to the point that it often feels like pure distraction.

I jump from one topic to another, watching far too many YouTube videos simply because it’s easy and requires little effort. This has made me somewhat addicted to YouTube, and it’s harming the way I learn overall.

The speed at which I consume content is now far higher than my ability to process and deeply learn from it. If I keep hopping from video to video, I forget what I watched just minutes earlier. This is why I need to impose deliberate limitations on my YouTube usage, especially when I’m trying to learn something from it.

This issue also ties back to Life Without Social Media. Although I’m not active on other platforms, YouTube has become a massive time sink for me.
