This somewhat links back to my other rant, as some of the ideas overlap.
I see many people walking the wrong path in life. I use to be one of them, Sometimes I still do slip into the old habits, but I can see that the path is not the right one. All of us chase a few things in as follows, wealth, procreation, fame.
Think of it as Maslows pyramid of hierarchy but all of us are stuck on one level. These 3 things are usually what we spend most of our lives chasing after. Not knowledge even though we all subconsciously understand that these 3 things are fickle in nature. They are all temporary, but we can’t override our own behaviors and thoughts.
It all boils down to 1 thing and only 1 thing. Our parents didn’t teach us to chase the right things. Because they also had no knowledge of how to chase the right things. So naturally we inherited the same ideas, behaviors, and wishes based on what we saw growing up in the society.
Don’t get me wrong wealth, procreation, and even fame/respect are important things but they should not be the central thing we all should be chasing.
What most of us should keep central to our lives is knowledge, not any knowledge but the one that teaches us dharma. Without dharma you can become the richest person in the world but will still not be poor. You can become the hottest person in the world with lots of sexual pleasure experience with many people but still be lustful. You can become the most famous human on the planet but still be a narcissistic idiot.
People who do not study dharma and learn about it will always be unstable. chasing the wrong things, clearly thinking in their heads that it is the right thing, that they are destined for chasing it. It’s all nothing but ignorance.
So what should one do? Learn about dharma, observe yourself with Dhrishta bhav, practice bhramacharya. All these can only be properly learnt from having a good guru. When you have a good guru you’ll naturally gravitate towards the right things. A guru make you stable in all aspects of your life.
The reason why our parents couldn’t guide us properly is because they couldn’t find a guru themselves. At least that the case for most of the modern Indians. We focus too much on western knowledge and sideline our old traditions such as Gurukuls and the knowledge that was one prevalent in all our households naturally.
